India’s Aditya L-1 Sun Mission Successfully Launched from Sriharikota

India’s inaugural Sun mission probe, Aditya L-1, was successfully launched from Sriharikota at 11.50 a.m. This fully indigenous mission was developed with contributions from various Indian firms.

Aditya L-1 is slated to journey approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth to reach the L1 point in the Sun-Earth system. The primary objective of ISRO’s mission is to gather data on solar wind, the heating of the solar atmosphere’s upper layers, and the resulting changes in radiation in Earth’s atmosphere, all while studying the intricacies of climate.

Before this significant launch, ISRO Chairman Dr. S. Somanath observed customary rituals and offered prayers at the Chengalamma Parameshwari temple in Tirupati. Seeking blessings from Tirupati is a deeply rooted tradition for ISRO scientists. In addition to the ISRO chief’s visit, a group of scientists visited the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara temple with a small model of the probe and performed religious rituals.
