World’s Tallest Ambedkar Statue Unveiled in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh

In a historic moment, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy unveiled the world’s tallest statue of BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, in Vijayawada. Named the ‘Statue of Social Justice,’ the 125-feet statue stands atop an 81-feet pedestal, boasting a total height of 206 feet. Located in the historic Swaraj Maidan, the statue is now among the 50 tallest statues globally.

The grand unveiling ceremony marked a monumental tribute to Ambedkar’s contributions to social justice and constitutional principles. The statue, constructed at a total cost of Rs 404.35 crores, stands on 18.81 acres of land. The structure incorporates 400 tons of steel, and its design includes a water body on three sides, a musical fountain, and screens depicting Ambedkar’s life.

In addition to the awe-inspiring statue, the project encompasses a convention center with 2000 seats, an 8000 sq.ft food court, and a playground for children. This ambitious undertaking aligns with the ‘Made in India’ initiative, showcasing the country’s prowess in executing such monumental projects.

Last year witnessed the unveiling of the largest Ambedkar statue outside India in Maryland, USA. However, the ‘Statue of Social Justice’ in Vijayawada now stands as the world’s tallest tribute to the iconic figure. While the Statue of Unity of Sardar Patel in Gujarat holds the title of the world’s tallest statue at 597 feet, Ambedkar’s statue in Vijayawada adds to India’s rich cultural and historical landmarks.
