Kerala’s Cinema Tourism Project: Showcasing Iconic Film Locations to the World

Kerala’s rich cinematic history is set to become a major draw for tourists as the state embarks on a unique cinema tourism project. Highlighting iconic film locations that have captivated audiences over the years, the initiative will showcase famous spots like the Vellayani bridge featured in Mohanlal’s ‘Kireedam’ and Thrissur’s Athirappilly waterfall, a significant backdrop in films like ‘Bahubali’ and Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ and ‘Raavan.’ These locations, immortalized on the silver screen, are now being developed for visitors to relive the magic.

The State government has allocated Rs 1,22,50,000 for the first spot, the Vellayani bridge, which will be transformed to echo the emotional scenes from ‘Kireedam.’ The project includes a ‘Nazar cafe’ modeled after the film’s coffee place, comfortable seating areas for tourists to enjoy the scenic Vellayani backwaters, resthouses, artistic displays of film characters, and other amenities. Renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam has expressed his support for the initiative and is set to participate in events planned at the picturesque Bekal Fort, further enhancing the cinematic experience for tourists visiting these cultural landmarks.
