Yellow Alert Issued for Eight Kerala Districts Due to Expected Widespread Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for Kerala, indicating the likelihood of widespread rainfall in the state in the coming days. As a result, a yellow alert has been declared for eight districts, including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. The anticipated rainfall is attributed to the formation of a cyclone over the southwest Bay of Bengal and southern Tamil Nadu.

In light of this weather alert, cautionary advice has been extended to fishermen and coastal residents due to the potential for high waves and coastal impacts along the Kerala coast. While fishing restrictions have not been imposed for the Kerala-Karnataka coast and the Lakshadweep region, residents are urged to take necessary precautions. Thunderstorms, which can be dangerous, pose risks to human and animal life, electrical and communication networks, and appliances connected to electrical conduits.

To ensure safety during thunderstorms, the public is advised to take several precautions. These include moving inside a safe building at the first sign of lightning, keeping windows and doors closed during strong winds, unplugging household appliances, avoiding telephone usage, refraining from standing under trees or parked vehicles, and avoiding activities like fishing and bathing in water bodies during thunderstorms.

Additionally, it is crucial to provide immediate first aid to individuals struck by lightning, as the first thirty seconds are vital in saving lives. Medical help should be sought promptly for those affected by lightning strikes. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with weather advisories and adhere to safety guidelines to minimize risks associated with the anticipated weather conditions.
