Railway Interventions Address Travel Woes in Kerala: Coaches Added, Speed Increased

In a move to alleviate the travel problems faced by passengers, the Indian Railways has implemented significant interventions in Kerala. To address the overcrowding issues, one second-class general coach has been added to eight trains, enhancing the capacity for commuters. The services of Vanchinad, Venad, Kannur – Alappuzha Executive, and Ernakulam – Kannur Intercity have each received an additional general coach. This measure is set to be implemented promptly, easing the strain on passengers using these services.

Moreover, efforts have been made to enhance the efficiency of train services. The speed of three trains, including two passenger trains, has been increased. Notably, the speed of Alappuzha – Ernakulam and Ernakulam – Kayamkulam passengers has been elevated by 20 minutes each, and Venad by 10 minutes. These improvements aim to streamline the train schedules, providing passengers with faster and more punctual services.

However, it’s worth noting that certain high-traffic trains like Palaruvi and Parasuram have not received additional coaches due to their already robust passenger capacity.

The Railways dispelled the notion that Vandebharat services were solely responsible for the travel inconveniences in Kerala. Delays were primarily attributed to factors like incessant rain, waterlogging in Kochuveli, landslides in Thiruvananthapuram – Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil sections. Additionally, construction work on the national highway contributed to overcrowding on trains. Railways assured that the situation would improve as signal upgrades and track repairs are completed.

A notable development on the horizon is the introduction of Vande Sadharan, India’s first affordable high-speed train service. Expected to commence between Ernakulam and Guwahati, Vande Sadharan aims to make long-distance travel accessible to the common man. The service prioritizes affordability, featuring no AC coaches and no food charges. Passengers can anticipate modern amenities, including automatic doors, mobile charging facilities, CCTV, bio vacuum toilets, and real-time information displays, ensuring a comfortable and budget-friendly travel experience.

The Railways’ proactive measures reflect a commitment to enhancing the travel experience for passengers in Kerala, showcasing a promising future for the state’s railway network.
