Tragic Stampede at CUSAT’s Dhishna Tech Fest Claims Lives of Four Students: Rahul Gandhi Extends Condolences

In a devastating turn of events, a stampede during a concert at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) on Saturday evening has left four students dead and over 60 injured. The incident occurred as part of the annual tech fest ‘Dhishna,’ organized by the School of Engineering Sciences. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed deep shock and sadness over the tragedy, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and urging swift medical care for the injured.

The stampede unfolded during a music concert featuring Nikhita Gandhi at the open-air auditorium on the CUSAT campus. The chaos reportedly ensued when students rushed inside the auditorium to seek shelter from a sudden downpour. The event drew attendees from various colleges, leading to overcrowding on the campus.

Rahul Gandhi, who represents Wayanad in Parliament, took to Facebook to convey his condolences. “Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic stampede incident at the CUSAT university in Kochi that has claimed the lives of four students and left many injured,” he said. Gandhi wished a speedy recovery to those injured and called on the Kerala government to ensure the best possible medical care for the victims.

The incident has prompted an emergency response from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who cancelled all cultural and art events associated with the ongoing Nava Kerala Sadas programme. Ministers P Rajeev and R Bindhu were deputed to coordinate measures and ensure the treatment of the injured students.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stampede unfold, the CUSAT community, as well as the state at large, mourns the loss of young lives in this tragic incident.
