Kerala Weather Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Expected on Saturday and Sunday, Orange Alert in Two Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting heavy rainfall in Kerala on Saturday and Sunday (December 16 and 17). According to the bulletin, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in a few places on December 15, 18, and 19, while many places are expected to experience rain or thundershowers on December 16 and 17. On December 16, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki have been issued yellow alerts, indicating heavy rainfall. On December 17, Pathanamthitta and Idukki are under an orange alert, signifying heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram have been issued yellow alerts.

The increased rainfall is associated with a cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean. The alerts issued by the IMD are crucial for local authorities and residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall, including potential flooding and other weather-related hazards.
