Sabarimala Mandalakala Pilgrimage Concludes with Sacred Mandala Puja and Makaravilakku Celebrations

The Mandalakala pilgrimage at Sabarimala concluded with the Mandala Puja ceremony at Poonkavanam. The rituals included chanting of Sharana mantras, Thanga Angi draping over the Sabarisha idol, panchapunyah, Kalabhabhishekam, and offerings to deities. Tantri Kantarar Mahesh Mohanar and Melshanti P N Mahesh Namboothiri led the ceremonies. The temple was closed after Kalasha Puja and Kalabhabhishekam, initiating Mandala Puja. Devotees were granted darshan after the evening Deeparadhan, ending with the removal of the Thanga Angi from the idol. The Makaravilakku season is set to commence on January 30th, culminating on January 21st, with Makaravilakku on January 15th. Various rituals, including Dharmashasta’s ascensions, will take place during this period.

Devotees were granted darshan after the evening Deeparadhan, concluding with the removal of the Thanga Angi from the idol.

Looking ahead, the Makaravilakku season is scheduled to commence on January 30th, concluding on January 21st, with Makaravilakku on January 15th. This festival will feature various rituals, including Diwala with Tiruvabharan, the lighting of Makaravilakku at Ponnampalamedu, and the celestial spectacle of Makarasamkrama Nakshatra in the sky. Additionally, ascensions of Dharmashasta will occur during this period, such as the ascent from the Manimandapam at Malikappuram to the 18th step, followed by the movement to Saramkuthi on the 19th. The Valiyaguruti at Malikapuram is scheduled for the night of the 20th, and the ceremonies will conclude on the 21st with the darshan of the King’s representative.

Esteemed personalities, including Nagaland Governor L Ganesh, Devaswom Minister K. Radhakrishnan, and Travancore Devaswom Board President P.S. Prashant, were present during the Mandala Puja ceremony. The Makaravilakku season promises a series of rituals and celebrations at Sabarimala, drawing devotees and visitors alike.
