Wayanad Emerges as the Top Choice for Tourists with 2.93 Lakh Footfall During Xmas-New Year Festivities

The picturesque district of Wayanad witnessed a remarkable surge in tourist footfall during the recent Christmas-New Year festive season, establishing itself as a preferred holiday destination. Drawing visitors not only from Kerala but also from North India, Wayanad showcased its scenic beauty and cultural richness.

Between December 20 and January 2, a staggering 2.93 lakh people explored the charm of Wayanad, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year. The district’s popularity soared during the Vishu-Easter holidays, with 1.5 lakh visitors in 2023. Similar enthusiasm was observed during the Onam festivities, attracting another 1.5 lakh tourists. Additionally, the Puja holiday season saw a substantial influx, with 1.25 lakh people visiting within four days.

Records indicate that during this festive season, 1.28 lakh tourists explored the various attractions under the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Notably, the Banasura Sagar dam and Karapuzha Dam were among the preferred destinations, attracting 77,826 and 66,832 visitors, respectively, between December 24 and January 2.

While the majority of tourists hailed from different districts of Kerala, Wayanad’s allure extended to visitors from states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and even some international travelers. The district’s growing popularity underscores its position as a must-visit destination, offering a blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences.
