Uncertainty Looms Over Supplyco’s Easter, Vishu, and Ramzan Fairs

Supplyco, the state-run cooperative society, is currently undecided about organizing special markets for Easter, Vishu, and Ramzan due to the scarcity of subsidized goods. Although tenders were invited, only one supplier tendered for certain items, leading to a decision to call for tenders again. However, it is expected that other items will begin arriving from today, and a final decision will be made once sufficient stock is available.

In the past, the Easter fair was skipped, but the government is now concerned that doing so again could negatively impact the upcoming elections. Consequently, the Food Department has instructed Supplyco to initiate the process of starting the fair using the available items. Additionally, the government has sanctioned Rs 200 crores to Supplyco towards market intervention arrears, which will be disbursed to suppliers upon receipt. Regular fairs are typically held at district and taluk centres, providing essential goods to the public.
