IMD Predicts Above-Normal Temperatures and Heat Wave Conditions for April and May

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating that temperatures are likely to be above normal, with heat wave conditions expected in the upcoming months of April and May. Dr. Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD, highlighted the forecast, mentioning heavy rainfall expected in regions like Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, while Delhi may witness very light rainfall in the coming days.

Dr. Naresh Kumar emphasized that as we approach April, above-normal temperatures are anticipated, particularly in the central parts of the country. He also stated that May, being the warmest month, may experience heat waves in northwest and central India. According to long-term predictions by the IMD, abnormal temperatures and heat wave conditions are likely to persist over central India for the next two to three months.

In the immediate future, an active Western disturbance is expected to influence Northwest India, leading to heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Delhi-NCR may experience light rain. Despite a temporary decrease in temperature due to this disturbance, temperatures above 35°C are expected to prevail over Northwest India.

The IMD official also noted heat wave conditions prevailing in regions like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Karnataka. Furthermore, hot and humid conditions are expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, coastal Odisha, and coastal Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. These forecasts underscore the need for residents to prepare for higher-than-normal temperatures and potential heat waves in the months ahead.
