The monsoon will intensify in Kerala, prompting a yellow alert in seven districts.
Despite a weak monsoon, Kerala is expected to receive heavy rain over the next three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In seven districts, a yellow alert has been issued: Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kasaragod.
Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in one or two locations in Kerala.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution.
High-speed winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in the open seas over the Arabian Sea’s southwest and west-central regions.
Fishermen are also advised not to go out into the sea.
Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, which usually receives a lot of rain during the monsoon season, had a 49% rainfall deficit.
While Kerala experienced a 29% decrease in rainfall during the monsoon, India experienced a 37% increase over the long-term average.
Northwest India had the highest excess (74%), followed by central India (58 per cent).
