From March 1, Microsoft will discontinue support for OneDrive on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1

San Francisco: Microsoft announced this week that it will discontinue support for OneDrive on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 on March 1, 2022.
“Beginning January 1, 2022, updates for the OneDrive desktop application on your personal Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 devices will no longer be provided in order to focus resources on new technologies and operating systems, and to provide users with the most up-to-date and secure experience,” Microsoft’s Ankita Kirti wrote in the announcement post.
“On March 1, 2022, personal OneDrive desktop applications running on these operating systems will stop syncing to the cloud. [And] your personal files will no longer sync after March 1, 2022.” Kirti has added

According to Thurrott, Microsoft naturally advises OneDrive users who require local access to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

If your PC does not support these newer Windows versions, you can still access OneDrive through its web interface, according to the report.

These dates apply to both OneDrive for Consumers and OneDrive for Business, according to the company.

According to Engadget, this is not a completely unexpected move.

Microsoft has long struggled to persuade some customers to upgrade to newer versions of Windows, to the point where businesses and governments would prefer to pay for special support contracts rather than update.
