The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has officially addressed the findings of the Hema Commission report, which highlighted issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality in the Malayalam film industry. AMMA General Secretary Siddique expressed the association’s support for the report and its recommendations, emphasizing that the police should investigate and punish those responsible. He also refuted media claims that the report targets AMMA, stating that the association is not implicated and stands by the report without protecting any culprits.
Siddique denied the existence of any mafia or power groups controlling the industry, a notion mentioned in the report. He clarified that AMMA has never encountered such a nexus and questioned how the industry could function under such control. The press conference also saw participation from AMMA executive committee members, who echoed Siddique’s sentiments. Meanwhile, the Kerala government has released a censored version of the report, omitting 11 paragraphs to protect individual privacy, further fueling discussions on the sensitive issue.
