The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has seen remarkable success with its tourism division, emerging as one of the state’s most popular tour operators. Since launching its budget-friendly travel packages in November 2021, KSRTC has attracted around 3.5 lakh travellers annually. These curated trips span across 52 tourist destinations, including well-loved locations such as Ooty and Mysuru. The initiative was designed not only to promote tourism post-pandemic but also to diversify the corporation’s income streams.
In just over three years—from November 2021 to February 2025—the tourism project has generated a significant revenue of ₹64.98 crore. The success of these affordable travel offerings has encouraged KSRTC to expand further. Plans are currently underway to collaborate with the transport departments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to increase the frequency and reach of interstate tourist trips. These discussions are reportedly in their final stages, hinting at an imminent rollout of new, cross-border travel options.
Looking ahead, KSRTC has even bigger plans on the national scale. The corporation is preparing to launch an All India Tour Package in partnership with Indian Railways. Additionally, KSRTC is inviting private stakeholders to join the initiative by providing low-cost accommodation solutions at key tourist spots. This approach is expected to make travel even more accessible and attractive to budget-conscious tourists, further solidifying KSRTC’s place in the tourism sector.
