Crumbs, famously known as the world’s fattest cat, has passed away in Russia only weeks after starting a weight loss program at a specialized veterinary center. Crumbs, who was initially discovered living in the basement of a hospital in Perm, had reportedly been abandoned and survived on biscuits and soup left by well-meaning rescuers. Due to his excessive size, Crumbs could barely walk and was placed in a feline weight-loss facility for treatment.
Tragically, Crumbs fell severely ill on a Saturday night and quickly deteriorated. Despite rapid efforts by veterinarians, including resuscitation attempts and placement in an oxygen chamber, Crumbs’ condition worsened, and he passed away just hours later. News of his death was shared on social media, with heartfelt messages describing the sudden nature of his passing. “Kroshik [Crumbs] suddenly fell ill and began to choke. Within half an hour, he was in an oxygen chamber, but resuscitation efforts ultimately couldn’t save him. Until his last breath, he was in the hands of skilled doctors who fought tirelessly for his life,” read one post.
Veterinarians suspect that Crumbs’ layers of fat likely masked severe health issues, including undetected growths on his spleen and metastases in other organs. Last month, Crumbs captured global attention with his playful and humorous personality, especially after a comical attempt to escape the clinic, which left him hilariously wedged in a shoe rack. His story brought awareness to feline obesity and the health risks associated with it. Crumbs’ journey and spirit resonated deeply with people worldwide, and his passing leaves a void among those who followed his story.
