The 9th edition of the renowned Poopoli Flower Festival in Wayanad is currently underway, offering visitors an immersive experience in floriculture. Held at the Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) in Ambalavayal, near Sulthan Bathery, the event spans 13 acres and features over 800 flower varieties, from roses and chrysanthemums to lilies and petunias. This 15-day festival, running through January 15, has become a must-visit annual event, attracting more than a lakh visitors from across Kerala and neighboring states.
The vibrant displays include floral gateways, arches, fountains illuminated with changing lights, and vertical gardens, creating a picturesque environment. Visitors can enjoy unique floral sculptures shaped like water taps, teacups, and peacocks, which add a creative touch to the festival. Beyond the beautiful flowers, Poopoli also offers valuable insights into the latest in agricultural technology, trends, and business opportunities. Farmers and entrepreneurs can network and showcase their products to potential buyers at dedicated stalls.
Cultural programs featuring artists like Jassie Gift and Chitra Iyer entertain guests every evening, further enhancing the festival’s appeal. The event’s management has been leased to Advent Events, ensuring high-quality organization while generating additional revenue for the institution. With over 100 stalls and entry fees of ₹60 (free for children under 6), Poopoli remains a major attraction for tourists and flower enthusiasts alike. Special bus services from Kalpetta and Sulthan Bathery make the venue easily accessible for all.
