
Thousands of Microsoft 365 users faced disruptions on Sunday as Outlook and other services experienced an outage, prompting widespread complaints on social media. Microsoft acknowledged the issue and launched an investigation, later attributing the problem to a recent service update. The company rolled back the update and confirmed that services had been restored.
In a post on X, Microsoft 365 Status stated, “We’re investigating an issue in which users may be unable to access Outlook features and services.” The company provided updates through its admin center under reference MO1020913, reviewing telemetry and user logs to assess the impact. Microsoft confirmed that the outage affected multiple Microsoft 365 services and identified a potential cause, reverting the suspected faulty update to mitigate the issue.
The company tweeted, “We’ve identified a potential cause of impact and have reverted the suspected code to alleviate impact.” Following the rollback, Microsoft reported that most services were recovering, with telemetry indicating a return to normalcy. A final update reassured users, stating, “Following our reversion of the problematic code change, we’ve monitored service telemetry and worked with previously impacted users to confirm that service is restored.”
According to Downdetector, nearly 37,000 users in the U.S. reported issues accessing Outlook during the outage. Microsoft advised users to refer to MO1020913 or the Office Service Status portal for detailed updates. The swift resolution highlights Microsoft’s commitment to addressing service disruptions and maintaining user trust.
