Thrissur has once again transformed into a vibrant cultural epicentre as the iconic Thrissur Pooram celebrations take over the city. With the beating of drums, traditional ensembles, and a sea of enthusiastic spectators, the city is immersed in festive grandeur. The day began with Kanimmangalam Shastha’s majestic arrival at the Vadakkumnathan temple. Gradually, the participating processions from various temples are making their way to the temple grounds, drawing waves of devotees and tourists alike into the heart of the celebration.
The major musical attraction of the day, the Elanjithara Melam, is scheduled for 2 PM, following the commencement of Panchavadyam at the Mathilakam entrance around 11 AM. But the real spectacle everyone eagerly anticipates is the famous Kudamattam, the colourful and competitive umbrella exchange ritual between the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temples, set to take place at 5:30 PM. Festival-goers are buzzing with curiosity over what surprise designs and themes the temples have in store this year.
Adding to the grandeur, the much-awaited fireworks display will light up the early morning sky at 3 AM tomorrow. As always, stunning visuals and spiritual fervour are expected at Vadakkumnathan temple.
The festivities were officially flagged off yesterday evening as thousands witnessed the ceremonial start at Neythalakavu temple, led by Ernakulam Shivakumar, who ceremoniously opened the southern gopuram gate carrying the deity’s replica. To ensure the safety of the enormous crowd, over 500 CCTV cameras have been strategically placed across the festival area by the police.
