Suresh Gopi Sworn in as MP in Traditional Kerala Attire

Bharatiya Janata Party’s first MP from Kerala, Suresh Gopi, took the oath as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha, proudly displaying his Malayali heritage by taking the oath in Malayalam. Dressed in traditional Kerala attire of a shirt and Mundu, Gopi arrived at the new parliament building with a warm smile, sandal paste on his forehead, and a distinctive designer brooch.

Prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, were among the initial members to take the oath. Following them, other MPs, including Suresh Gopi, proceeded with their oath-taking. Reports indicate that other MPs from Kerala are scheduled to take their oaths at 4 pm.

In a historic victory for the BJP, Gopi secured the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat in the recent general elections, marking the party’s first win in the southern state. He defeated V.S. Sunilkumar, the candidate from the ruling Left Democratic Front, by a margin of 74,686 votes.

Gopi was sworn in as Minister of State in the Modi 3.0 cabinet, taking on responsibilities for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as well as the Ministry of Tourism.
