Akkulam Glass Bridge in Thiruvananthapuram Set to Open in May: A New Tourism Attraction

Explore the Stunning Akkulam Glass Bridge: Offering Unmatched Views and Immersive Features for Visitors

The much-awaited Akkulam Glass Bridge in Thiruvananthapuram is all set to open to the public this May, promising a one-of-a-kind experience for both adventure enthusiasts and families. The construction of the bridge is almost complete, with the final touches being made by the Tourism Department for its grand opening. Designed to enhance the tourism appeal of the Akkulam region and the nearby Veli Tourist Village, this bridge is expected to become a key attraction.

Standing at a height of 70 feet and stretching 52 meters, the Akkulam Glass Bridge offers stunning views of the serene Akkulam Lake. Its advanced features, including artificial fog and rainfall, create a refreshing and immersive experience, making it more than just a bridge. The bridge also boasts LED lighting and decorative lights that enhance its beauty, especially during the evening hours, adding to its visual appeal.

Maintained by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), the bridge is constructed by the Vattiyoorkavu Youth Brigade Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society (VYBe). With safety as a top priority, the glass panels used in the bridge were rigorously tested by a team of experts from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kozhikode, who issued a fitness certificate for the structure after performing a thorough inspection.

Although construction was completed nearly a year ago, the official opening was delayed due to a crack found in one of the glass panels. After investigations cleared any doubts regarding the material quality, final preparations for the opening are now in full swing. The inauguration is set for May, but the exact date is yet to be confirmed. The Akkulam Glass Bridge is poised to become one of the top tourist destinations in the region.
