A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kozhikode, where Alina Benny (29), a lower primary (LP) school teacher, was found hanging at her residence on Wednesday. Alina, who had been teaching for the past six years, was employed at St. Joseph’s LP School in Kodenchery, Thamarassery at the time of her death.
She had previously worked at another school in Kattippara for five years before moving to her current job. However, despite her years of service, she reportedly did not receive a stable salary, which placed her under immense financial and mental strain.
Alina did not report to school on Wednesday, and when her phone remained switched off, the school authorities became concerned. They contacted her father, Benny, to check on her well-being. Tragically, upon reaching home around 3 PM, Benny discovered his daughter hanging in her room.
According to her father, Alina had been struggling with severe depression due to her unstable job and unpaid salary. Working in a corporate management school, she had experienced frequent salary delays, leaving her financially vulnerable. Her prolonged financial uncertainty and mental exhaustion eventually led to this tragic decision.
The Thamarassery Police have registered a case of natural death, according to SHO Sayuj Kumar A. Following the completion of inquest proceedings, Alina’s body was moved to Kozhikode Medical College Mortuary for further procedures.
This incident has reignited discussions about job insecurity, salary delays, and the mental health struggles faced by teachers in private schools. Many believe that better financial security and timely payments are essential to prevent such tragedies in the future.
