A machete used in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based transport businessman, while honeymooning in Meghalaya with his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been recovered from the crime scene. According to sources, Raja (29) was attacked several times with a machete. The victim also tried to save himself during the assault. Police said the accused had brought a machete near the Guwahati railway station in Assam.

The weapon was recovered from the crime scene in Meghalaya. Sonam (25) is accused of getting Raja killed during their honeymoon in Meghalaya with the help of her lover Raj Kushwaha (20) and three others, in a case which has sent shockwaves across the country. The other three accused, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, were initially suspected to be hired killers, but the police later found they were friends of Raj. All of them, including Sonam and Raj, were arrested by the Indore Police.

Raja and Sonam married in Indore on May 11 and arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 21. They were reported missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji) in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on May 23. Raja’s body was recovered on June 2, while a search continued for Sonam. A week later, Sonam was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, around 1,200 kilometres away from the crime spot.

During interrogation, she confessed to the murder and named Raj and the three accused as co-conspirators.
All the accused are currently in Meghalaya Police’s custody, and an SIT is probing the case. Meanwhile, the elder brother of the Raja has demanded a narco-analysis test on Sonam’s parents and alleged that the family suspected the involvement of more people in the killing.
