Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt wishes to Malayalees on the occasion of Onam. In a message delivered in Malayalam, he wished peace, prosperity, and well-being for all. The Prime Minister emphasized that Onam celebrates Kerala’s rich culture and is joyfully observed by Malayalee communities around the world. Similarly, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also conveyed his Onam greetings.
As the celebrations reach their peak on Thiruvonam, Malayalees across the globe are filled with excitement. The festival, which began with Atham, is culminating in a grand display of unity and equality. Onam is not just a celebration of harvest, but also a reminder that all humans are equal. The festival encourages those who have more to help those in need, making it a true embodiment of compassion and sharing.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also extended his wishes, urging that this Onam be a meaningful celebration. He stressed that the festival should inspire the unity of all human beings, transcending discrimination. Referring to the tragic landslides in Wayanad in July, which claimed over 200 lives, CM Vijayan called on people to donate generously to the relief efforts. He emphasized that by helping those affected by the calamity, the Onam celebration would hold deeper significance.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan added his greetings, highlighting the importance of Onam in promoting unity, prosperity, and cultural harmony. In a video message, he encouraged everyone to spread the joy of Onam and uphold its legacy of equality and love.
Onam, a major festival in Kerala, commemorates the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. Celebrated with grandeur, the festival features traditional events such as Vallam Kali (boat races), Pulikali (tiger dances), Pookkalam (flower Rangoli), Thumbi Thullal (women’s dance), and the grand Onam Sadya feast, which brings communities together in the spirit of unity and festivity.
