Veteran Congress Leader KP Kunhikannan Passes Away at 75

Former MLA Remembered for His Contributions to Kerala Politics

Kannur: Veteran Congress leader and former MLA KP Kunhikannan passed away at the age of 75 in Kannur. He was receiving treatment at a private hospital after suffering a rib injury in a car accident that occurred on September 4. The accident took place on the national highway near the Karuvachery petrol pump in Nileswaram when Kunhikannan’s car collided with a divider while returning home to Payyannur from a meeting in Kanhangad.

Kunhikannan’s political journey began to shine in 1987 when he was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Udma constituency in Kasaragod district. His election during that time marked a significant moment in his career, as he emerged as a strong political figure for the Congress party. He was highly respected within the party and also served as the first president of the District Congress Committee (DCC) after the formation of the Kasaragod district.

Throughout his career, Kunhikannan was known for his dedication to public service and his significant contributions to the political landscape of Kerala. His leadership and unwavering commitment to his party and constituency left a lasting impact on the people he represented. His death marks the loss of a prominent figure in Kerala politics, and his legacy will be remembered by many.
