A shocking and tragic incident unfolded in Kufa, Iraq, where a pet lion fatally attacked its owner, a man known for his passion for raising wild animals. The victim, Aqil Faqr al-Din, aged 50, was brutally killed by the lion he had purchased only a month ago. Al-Din had specifically chosen what he believed to be the calmest lion available and had been keeping it in a private enclosure in his garden.
According to neighbors and locals, Al-Din had a long history of raising wild animals, including lions, treating them with affection and care—almost as if they were his own children. This lion, too, was reportedly raised with love. However, the relationship turned fatal when Al-Din approached the lion’s enclosure. In a sudden and violent attack, the lion pounced on him, biting his neck and chest with extreme force. The animal went so far as to devour significant portions of his chest and head, killing him instantly.
Hearing his screams, neighbors and staff rushed to help, but it was too late. The lion was ultimately shot dead to prevent further danger. The police have since begun an investigation into the incident, raising fresh concerns about the risks of keeping exotic predators as domestic pets, no matter how tame they may seem.
