X, the platform formerly known as Twitter and now owned by Elon Musk, is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to disable links in replies to their posts. This feature aims to curb spam by enabling users to block links natively within post replies. The discovery was made by app researcher Nima Owji (@nima_owji), known for uncovering unreleased features on X. Owji’s findings, including a screenshot of the feature, suggest that it will be accessible via a check mark under the “Only accounts you mention” banner.
Christopher Stanley, a Security Researcher at X, confirmed the feature’s development, stating, “My team built this.” This is part of X’s broader strategy to evolve into an “everything app” akin to China’s WeChat, integrating messaging, payments, and more functionalities.
In addition to this, X is also working on a ‘dislike’ button for its iOS app, which would allow users to downvote replies. Other anticipated features include in-app currency for content creators and an extension of the current tipping system, though these have not yet been implemented.
Another recent change on the platform was the removal of the Likes tab from user profiles for X Premium subscribers, a move aimed at reducing discouragement related to content engagement. This feature will soon be hidden for all users, with only the content author being able to see who has liked their posts.
