Kerala Records Unprecedented Surge in Tourist Arrivals, Ernakulam Emerges as Top Destination

Kerala, known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals, setting a new record for domestic visitors. In 2023, the state welcomed approximately 2,18,71,641 domestic tourists, marking a substantial 15.92% increase compared to the previous year. Ernakulam district emerged as the top destination, attracting around 44,87,930 domestic tourists, showcasing the widespread appeal of its tourist spots. Other districts like Idukki, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Wayanad also contributed significantly to the tourism influx, highlighting the diverse attractions Kerala offers.

Foreign tourists, equally captivated by the charm of Kerala, have also contributed to the tourism boom. The year 2023 saw a substantial 87.83% increase in foreign tourist arrivals, reaching an impressive 6,49,057 individuals. Ernakulam district led the way in foreign tourist visits with 2,79,904 arrivals, followed by Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam. This surge in tourism not only underscores Kerala’s global allure but also emphasizes the resilience of the tourism industry, bouncing back after challenges posed by the global pandemic.
