Food poisoning in Kerala: Officials raid 429 eateries across Kerala, shut down 43

After the death of a woman due to food poisoning, the food safety department raided eateries in various parts of the state. As per the official data, a special squad of the food safety department inspected 429 eateries in the state. Out of the 429 eateries, the officials issued orders to shut down 43.

“22 eateries which operated in unhygienic conditions and 21 without holding licence were closed. Notices were issued against 138 eateries. A total of 44 food samples have been sent for lab tests. The food safety department will intensify the crackdown on the restaurants which violate the norms,” said health minister Veena George.

On Monday, a nurse named Resmi Raj died of food poisoning after eating Alfahm from a hotel in Kottayam. The health minister informed that the special squad of the food safety department will continue the inspections in eateries across the state.
