Criminal background: Father-in-law kills 22-year-old, stages it as electrocution

A man murdered his 22-year-old son-in-law and set his body ablaze to make it look like an electrocution incident. The incident took place at Thirukazhukundram in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpet district. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Maqbool Dawalsaheb Mulla (22), a resident of Belagavi. The accused, S Rajendran (52), was upset with Mulla’s criminal background and alcohol addiction. The incident happened on Tuesday night when Rajendran visited Maqbool, who was alone at a friend’s place and offered him food laced with sedatives. Rajendran then slit his throat and set his body ablaze.

When Mulla’s friend returned, he found the charred body and informed the police. During interrogation, Rajendran told police that Mulla was electrocuted. However, he confessed to his crime later. Rajendran worked as a foreman at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Centre, Kalpakkam. Rajendran’s daughter R Nishanthini and Mulla had eloped a few months ago and got married against Rajendran’s wishes. Following their wedding, the couple was unable to make ends meet as neither had a job. Rajendran told cops that he had helped Mulla find a job in a private company. However, Mulla continued to drink and steal things despite being warned.
