J&J is looking into ways to speed up the delivery of its COVID-19 vaccine in India.

Bengaluru: Johnson & Johnson (J&J) announced on Tuesday that it is in discussions with the Indian government about ways to expedite the delivery of its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine in the country.

Following India’s decision to discontinue bridging clinical trials for vaccines approved by regulators in other countries, the Economic Times newspaper reported earlier on Tuesday that the company would no longer conduct local trials for its vaccine.

J&J did not say whether or not the trial had been cancelled in its statement.

In April, the US-based company announced plans to conduct a bridging clinical study of its Janssen COVID-19 vaccine candidate in India.

However, in late May, the country cancelled local trials for “well-established” vaccines manufactured in other countries.

More than 41 million vaccine doses have been administered across India in the last week, despite experts stating that widespread vaccination remains one of the best tools for avoiding the devastation seen during the pandemic’s second wave.
