Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Initiates Feeding Spots for Stray Dogs, Draws Interest from 32 Individuals

In compliance with a prior directive from the High Court, the health standing committee of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has taken a step towards introducing feeding spots for stray dogs in the city. The decision aims to address concerns raised by the court regarding the potential increase in aggression among dogs when deprived of food. Currently, 32 individuals have expressed their interest in establishing feeding centers for stray dogs in designated locations.

Feeding spots will be strategically located, avoiding public places such as hospitals, schools, and bus stands. The Standing Committee on Health Affairs will play a pivotal role in determining suitable locations, with health inspectors tasked to conduct detailed inspections, ensuring minimal crowding. Preliminary findings have identified 194 potential locations, including areas near Manaveeyam, the museum, and the Vazhuthacaud forest department office.

Collaborating with organizations like People for Animals and Community Dog Breeders, the corporation aims to assess the suitability of these locations as feeding spots. The final decision on feeding spots will be made in consultation with ward councillors, considering various factors such as vaccination requirements and adherence to guidelines provided by the Centre.

Individuals involved in providing food at these spots are expected to follow guidelines, ensuring feeding occurs during less crowded times. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining cleanliness at the feeding locations and must stay informed about essential aspects, including vaccination details. The corporation emphasizes the reporting of vaccination information for effective monitoring and management of the initiative.
