Railway Land Unavailable for K-Rail’s SilverLine Project, Southern Railway GM Asserts

Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh has conveyed that railway land designated for development activities cannot be allocated to K-Rail for its proposed SilverLine project in the Malabar region. Singh highlighted that more than half of the proposed route traverses through railway land, emphasizing that such land is specifically reserved for the developmental needs of the railways. The Railway Board maintains a stance against converting it for use by K-Rail. This announcement came during a meeting with Members of Parliament under the Thiruvananthapuram division.

During the meeting, MPs advocated for various railway-related demands, including the completion of track doubling, allowing a stop for Alappuzha Vande Bharat at Kayamkulam, expediting Nemom terminal works, and ensuring a speed of 110km/hr in the Kerala stretch. Additionally, concerns were raised about station development activities. In response, Singh assured the MPs that he would intervene to expedite ongoing projects and present new demands to the Railway Board for consideration.
