Puthuppally Bypoll: LDF Expresses Confidence, UDF Asserts Victory

In the lead-up to the Puthuppally bypoll, both the LDF and UDF have conveyed their respective outlooks on the anticipated outcome.

M.V. Govindan, the CPM state secretary, asserted that the UDF would struggle to secure victory in Puthuppally without the support of BJP votes. He suggested that the LDF could secure the seat if UDF had not allegedly garnered BJP votes.

Govindan emphasized the futility of making unsubstantiated claims and underscored that while they refrained from making bold statements, the confidence in their win stemmed from the extensive efforts of their political organization. He raised suspicions about whether the UDF had acquired BJP votes, citing the 19,000 BJP votes in Puthuppally. He argued that Chandy Oommen’s chances of winning depended on these votes, and the truth would emerge once the votes were counted. He also noted that a decisive victory seemed unlikely, regardless of the winner.

Sources within the LDF camp indicated that the election results could astound the UDF, hinting at the potential for the LDF to seize power in this traditionally Congress-dominated stronghold.

Meanwhile, the UDF remains steadfast in its belief that it will emerge victorious in Puthuppally. However, concerns linger about the impact of low voter turnout on the margin of victory.
