Actor Dwayne Johnson says no to real guns on set after Baldwin tragedy

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a Hollywood actor, has said he will no longer use real guns in his films after his friend and fellow actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a cinematographer on a film set in New Mexico last month.

On October 21, Halyna Hutchins was killed by a bullet fired from a gun Baldwin was using to rehearse a scene on the set of the Western film ‘Rust.’

An assistant director had informed Baldwin that the gun was “cold,” an industry term indicating that it was safe to use.

Johnson, who was in Los Angeles for the world premiere of his new Netflix blockbuster ‘Red Notice,’ with co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, announced that his production company, Seven Bucks Productions, would “never use real guns again.”

“That was a dreadful scenario that occurred. I’ve known Alec (Baldwin) for a long time. He’s a good friend of mine, and my heart goes out to the families of everyone involved “He stated.

“I can’t speak for other production companies or studios, but I can tell you that this has created a new lens and a new perspective on how we can operate going forward,” Johnson told Reuters.

“I can’t speak for other production companies, I can’t speak for other studios, but what I can tell you is this has created a new lens and a new perspective on how we can operate moving forward,” Johnson told Reuters.

The ‘Fast & Furious’ star said from now on his production company would use rubber guns and that they would “take care of it in post (production) and we won`t worry about the dollars.”

Concerns about the use of prop guns and set safety have resurfaced as a result of the shooting. Baldwin denies claims that the production of ‘Rust’ was dangerous and chaotic.

‘Red Notice,’ which stars Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot in an action-packed heist caper, will be available on Netflix on November 12.
