WATCH: After Tamil Nadu opens TASMAC stores, a man worships liquor bottles.

Following the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to open liquor stores in 27 districts for a limited time, a unique incident from Madurai has gone viral.

The state government of Tamil Nadu has extended the statewide lockdown until June 29. However, the administration has announced a number of relaxations, one of which is the opening of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor stores.

In Madurai, a man was seen worshipping his liquor bottles in front of a TASMAC store. On the shop’s stairs, he lit an earthen lamp. He kept the bottles beside the lamp and bowed in front of them several times to pray after purchasing them.

Many strange alcohol-related incidents have emerged from across the country since the Covid-19-imposed lockdowns and restrictions went into effect.

A video of an elderly woman buying alcohol went viral on social media in April of this year, similar to what was seen in Madurai.

She was seen standing in line to buy liquor. In the viral video, she stated that “not medicine or injection, only alcohol can cure the coronavirus.”

A few people who were present at the time videotaped the entire incident. The videos have since gone viral on social media platforms.
