The Ministry of Information and Technology has banned PUBG Mobile along with 118 other mobile applications. This is the third wave of ban that has hit the app industry after the government made similar moves in the past.
“This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.” said statement by the ministry.
There were numerous complaints were received from various sources and included reports about the misuse of mobile apps which were available on Android and iOS platforms. The complaints talked about stealing and transferring user data in an unauthorised manner to servers which were located outside of India.
“The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement said.
