Covid 19: 18,027 lost their jobs in aviation sector

Hardeep Puri Minister of Civil Aviation informed Parliament about the impact of covid 19 pandemic on India’s civil aviation sector from March 31, 2020, to July 31, 2020. As per the data given 18,027 jobs were lost in 4 months in the aviation sector. This is the first official analysis of the impact of the pandemic in the civil aviation sector.

‘The employment at airlines has reduced from 74,887 as on 31 March 2020 to 69,589 as on 31 Jul 2020. The employment at airports has reduced from 67,760 as on 31 March 2020 to 64,514 as on 31 Jul 2020’ Civil Aviation Minister said.

5,298 jobs were lost in the airline sector, 3,246 jobs were lost in the airport sector, 1,017 people involved in cargo operations lost their jobs and the maximum jobs were lost in the ground handling division at 8,466. The Rajya Sabha MP wanted to know if the Ministry has conducted any study on the impact of coronavirus pandemic on the aviation sector.
