Government Strives for Affordable Cancer Drug Prices, Says Minister Veena George

The government is actively working towards ensuring the most affordable costs for cancer medications, as emphasized by Health Minister Veena George. This initiative aligns with the government’s policy, and Minister George highlighted this during her speech at the inauguration of advanced medical equipment at RCC.

The event saw the inauguration of cutting-edge healthcare tools, including a 3 Tesla MRI unit equipped with state-of-the-art features and a 3D Digital Mammography Unit. These were opened by Minister Veena George. Additionally, a Solar Energy Chiller and Water Purifier, established with Anert’s assistance, were inaugurated by Power Minister K. Krishnankutty.

Cancer treatment and prevention form a crucial aspect of the Kerala Navam Karmapaddhati Yojana Ardram Mission. The mission focuses on early cancer detection, timely treatment, and access to modern treatment methods. Collaborating with local bodies, the government has initiated district cancer care centers to further this cause.

To combat cancer effectively, concerted efforts involving public participation are underway, targeting early-stage detection and treatment. The regional cancer center is undergoing modernization to enhance treatment capabilities. As part of this effort, innovative treatment systems are being developed at RCC.

RCC has established a state-of-the-art digital mammography unit as part of its efforts to enhance diagnostic facilities for early detection of breast cancer in Kerala. This specialized unit, costing 2.5 crore rupees, offers improved accuracy, clarity, and speed in breast cancer detection. Notably, this is the first facility of its kind, equipped with a biopsy feature, in Kerala.

Another patient-centric addition is the 3 Tesla MRI unit, incorporating cutting-edge technology. Valued at 19.5 crore rupees, this unit provides advanced imaging capabilities, surpassing the speed of a regular MRI unit. It includes features such as a breast coil for breast cancer detection and a dedicated system for prostate cancer identification.

The government is committed to implementing the Green Protocol, with plans to transition government hospitals to solar energy through energy audits. This move aims to significantly reduce electricity expenses in hospitals. Minister Veena George aspires to convert RCC into a fully solar-powered hospital, furthering the government’s green energy objectives.
