Cyclone Yaas Live Update; Yellow alert in nine district

Hurricane Yaas formed in the Bay of Bengal and turned into a super typhoon. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced along the Odisha-West Bengal coast. Currently, Cyclone Yas is located 85 km east-southeast of Dhamra, 90 km east of Paraisland (Odisha), 140 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 130 km south-east of Diga (West Bengal) when information is finally received.

The powerful cyclone, which is travelling in the north-north-west direction, gained momentum and reached near Dhamra Port on the north Odisha coast early this morning. The Weather Bureau said it was likely to enter the north Odisha coast by this afternoon as a severe cyclonic storm between north Dhamrak and the south of Balasore.

In this context, a red alert has been sounded in Odisha and West Bengal. Both the states are witnessing strong winds and rain. Kolkata’s airport will be completely closed from 8:30 am to 7.45 pm today. Detachments are on standby for rescue operations.
