To pay respects, the mortal remains of Covid victims can be taken home: CM

The families of the Covid victims will be allowed to bring the mortal remains to their homes so that relatives can pay their respects, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at a press conference here on Tuesday. He also stated that the body should only be taken home for less than an hour and that religious rituals should be performed in a limited manner.

The mental trauma experienced by the deceased’s relatives should be minimised. As a result of this situation, the repayment of bank loans taken out by Covid victims has fallen behind. As part of this, the chief minister directed that the attachment procedures be halted.

The pandemic’s impact is comparable to that of a high tide. Through resistance activities, we attempted to halt and slow the tide’s progress. This time, we were successful. People were queuing at crematoriums in other places, but we did not go to that stage, he added.

Kerala’s Covid situation is unique in that it takes longer to deteriorate. As a result, we keep telling people not to worry. The current situation is the result of our caution, not our mistakes, according to the chief minister.
