OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT: Access to Current World Knowledge and Enhanced Capabilities Unveiled
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a significant announcement at the company’s first developer conference, revealing an upgrade to ChatGPT that allows the AI chatbot to access more up-to-date and accurate information. ChatGPT, which was previously trained on data up to September 2021, has now been equipped with knowledge of world events up to April 2023. This update is a substantial enhancement, enabling users to inquire about recent global developments, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the evolving situation of the coronavirus pandemic.
Altman acknowledged the limitations of ChatGPT’s previous knowledge cutoff and emphasized OpenAI’s commitment to keeping the information current. He mentioned that the company was determined to avoid letting the knowledge base become outdated again.
In addition to the expanded knowledge base, ChatGPT, powered by GPT-4 Turbo, now boasts enhanced capabilities. Users can prompt the chatbot with images, and it can process them to generate responses. Moreover, it can answer queries more accurately by utilizing information from up to 300 pages of a book. Additionally, ChatGPT can assist in software development tasks.
However, it’s important to note that the updated knowledge base and enhanced features are currently accessible to customers who have paid for access to GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI’s most advanced Large Language Model (LLM). GPT-4 Turbo is in preview for developers and is slated for a wider release in the coming weeks, as per OpenAI’s announcement.
