Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 12,246 new Covid cases on Tuesday, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who spoke at a press conference following the daily Covid review meeting.

The number of active cases has been reduced to 1,12,361, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during his customary sunset briefing.

In the previous 24 hours, 1,04,120 samples were tested, with a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of 11.76%.

With the addition of 166 deaths on Tuesday, the state’s death toll has risen to 11,508.

The state reported a 20% decrease in cases last week, as well as a 10% decrease in the TPR during the same time period.

69 of the positive cases were health workers, 85 were from outside the state, and 11,459 were infected through contact. The source of 633 of them’s infection is unknown.

Except for Thiruvananthapuram, all other districts have a TPR of less than 15%.

Instead of implementing the same restrictions and testing methods across the state, the new Covid containment strategy, which will go into effect on June 17, will impose different levels of curbs based on the severity and spread of the disease.

The following are the key points from the CM’s press conference:

• Beginning June 16, the state government has decided to relax lockdown restrictions even further.

• Stores selling necessities may be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Akshaya centres will be open Monday through Friday.

• The Secretariat will operate with a rotating 50 percent staff.

• Weddings and funerals will be limited to 20 people.

• On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a total lockdown.

• Dine-in restaurants and malls will not be permitted to open.

• Beginning June 17, public transportation will be permitted.

• Beginning June 17, all public exams will be available.
