Kerala Opposition Leader Voices Concerns Over Price Surge; Collaborative Inspection Proposed

VD Satheesan, the leader of the opposition, has expressed grave concerns about the significant price escalation in the state of Kerala. He emphasized that the people of Kerala are currently grappling with substantial hardships, facing various challenges simultaneously. Addressing the assembly, Satheesan highlighted the issue of price surge and suggested a joint visit to the market to assess the situation.

The devastating effects of the Great Flood and Pestilence have severely impacted the financial stability of numerous individuals. The opposition leader noted that the aftermath of these events led to a surge in foreclosure notices from financial institutions last year, as people struggled to recover from the resulting shock.

In response to Satheesan’s proposition, Food Minister GR Anil has taken on the task of conducting a collaborative inspection to ensure the availability of essential commodities. The Food Minister commended Kerala’s market intervention and low-price approach as a successful model.

Minister P Prasad addressed allegations against Horticorp for charging higher prices than the public market. Additionally, KN Balagopal raised concerns about issues between the food finance departments regarding supplyco arrears. Minister Antony Raju’s remarks regarding KSRTC prompted a strong reaction from the opposition, leading to their walkout in protest against being denied permission to present an urgent resolution.
