Ernakulam – Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express Set to Commence Service: Here’s What to Expect

In a significant development for Kerala’s transportation sector, the state is gearing up for the launch of its third Vande Bharat Express, which will operate between Ernakulam and Bengaluru. Anticipated to commence soon after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha Elections’ model code of conduct, the service marks a crucial addition to Kerala’s rail connectivity.

Preparations are in full swing, with the completion of the electrification of the pit line at Ernakulam Marshalling Yard and ongoing drainage works. The train’s rake arrived in Kollam in April, but the initiation of services was postponed due to technical issues.

Once operational, the Vande Bharat Express will depart from Ernakulam South Station at 5 am, arriving in Bengaluru at 1.35 pm. The return journey from Bengaluru will commence at 2.05 pm, reaching Ernakulam at 10.45 pm. The route includes stops at key locations such as Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Erode, and Salem, enhancing connectivity between Kerala and Karnataka.

Currently, Kerala boasts two operational Vande Bharat trains. The Kasaragod–Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express runs six days a week, covering a distance of 586 km in approximately 8 hours and 5 minutes. It halts at stations including Kannur, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Jn, Thrissur, Ernakulam Jn, Alleppey, and Kollam Jn.

The second Vande Bharat Express, operating between Mangaluru Central and Thiruvananthapuram via Alappuzha, provides daily services. Covering a distance of 621 km, this train completes its journey in around 8 hours and 40 minutes, contributing to seamless connectivity across the region.
