Yellow Alert Issued as Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Forecasted in Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Kerala, predicting isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning on Thursday and Friday. The alert comes as a result of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, contributing to light to moderate rainfall across the state from Thursday to Monday. The IMD forecast warns of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 Kmph at specific locations in Kerala between November 30th and December 4th, 2023. Several parts of the state experienced thunderstorms on Thursday evening, prompting the Met department to issue a yellow alert for five districts on Thursday and four districts on Friday, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. A yellow alert indicates expected rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period. The Kerala Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to exercise caution and take necessary precautions, especially during lightning events, to ensure their safety.
