Kerala Heatwave: Yellow Alert Issued in 9 Districts

The scorching heatwave has gripped nine districts in Kerala, prompting meteorologists to issue a yellow alert. With temperatures soaring to alarming levels, residents in districts such as Palakkad and Kollam brace for highs of up to 39 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts are expected to face temperatures nearing 38 degrees Celsius, while Thrissur anticipates highs of 37 degrees Celsius. Even coastal areas like Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur are not spared, with temperatures expected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius. Despite the forecast of rainfall in some areas, relief from the relentless heatwave remains elusive for the affected regions.

The yellow alert serves as a precautionary measure, urging residents to take necessary precautions to combat the extreme heat and avoid potential health risks. Authorities are advising people to stay indoors during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. The soaring temperatures also raise concerns about potential heat-related illnesses and heatstroke, particularly among vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children. While some relief may be on the horizon with anticipated rainfall, the persistent heatwave underscores the importance of community awareness and preparedness in coping with such extreme weather conditions. Efforts to mitigate the impact of the heatwave, including providing access to cooling centers and disseminating heat safety information, remain crucial in safeguarding public health and well-being.
