Streamlining Vehicle Registration Process: Kerala Transport Commissioner Issues Circular

The Kerala Transport Commissioner has introduced reforms to expedite the vehicle registration process, aiming for prompt allocation of registration numbers within two working days of receiving applications through the ‘Vahan’ portal. The circular warns of disciplinary action against officers failing to meet the stipulated timeframe. Notable changes include eliminating the requirement for Aadhaar and PAN details when registering a vehicle in a company head’s name, with subsequent steps for including PAN and TAN information. The circular also emphasizes that a nominee is not mandatory for the application, and ID proof should only be requested if the nominee’s name is provided. Moreover, individuals working in Kerala with an out-of-state address can register by submitting proof of a temporary address along with a copy of Aadhaar.

This move by the Kerala Transport Commissioner reflects a commitment to efficiency and transparency in the vehicle registration process. By streamlining procedures and leveraging the ‘Vahan’ portal, the department aims to enhance the overall experience for applicants while maintaining a focus on compliance and timely service delivery.
