Kerala logs new 51,887 COVID cases, 118 more deaths recorded, TPR at 42.86%

Kerala reported 51,887 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 42.86 per cent. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-9331, Thrissur-7306, Thiruvananthapuram- 6121, Kozhikode-4234, Kollam-3999, Kottayam-3601, Palakkad-3049, Alappuzha-2967, Malappuram-2838, Pathanamthitta-2678, Idukki-2130, Kannur-2081, Wayanad-1000 and Kasaragod-552.

A total of 1,21,048 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 5,32,995 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,21,352 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 11,643 people are in hospitals. 1,330 people were taken to hospitals on Tuesday. Among the 3,67,847 active Covid cases reported, only 3.2 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 24 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 1063 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 118 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 55,600 in the state.

Among the new patients, 221 were returned from outside the state. 47,612 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 3,602 patients remains unidentified. 462 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, 40,383 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-5763, Kollam-2847, Pathanamthitta-1746, Alappuzha-1114, Kottayam-3273, Idukki-1222, Ernakulam-8808, Thrissur-3910, Palakkad-1480, Malappuram-2375, Kozhikode-4355, Wayanad-497, Kannur-2186, and Kasaragod-807. 56,53,376 people were recovered from the disease so far.
