Slight relief; Kerala’s reports 38,684 new cases; death toll at 28

Kerala reported 38,684 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 32.1 per cent. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-6398 Thiruvananthapuram- 5002, Kollam-3714, Thrissur-3426, Kottayam-3399, Malappuram-2616, Alappuzha-2610, Kozhikode-2469, Pathanamthitta-2069, Kannur-1814, Palakkad-1792, Idukki-1442, Wayanad-1202 and Kasaragod-731.

A total of 1,20,496 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 5,12,986 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,02,193 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 10,793 people are in hospitals. 1,176 people were taken to hospitals on Friday. Among the 3,66,120 active Covid cases reported, only 2.9 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 28 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 370 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 197 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 57,296 in the state.

Among the new patients, 189 were returned from outside the state. 35,878 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2,304 patients remains unidentified. 313 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 41,037 recoveries were also reported in the state The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-8954, Kollam-2373, Pathanamthitta-2472, Alappuzha-2205, Kottayam-4115, Idukki-1713, Ernakulam-2676, Thrissur-1034, Palakkad-3314, Malappuram-2719, Kozhikode-4915, Wayanad-1346, Kannur-2314, and Kasaragod-887. 57,86,949 people were recovered from the disease so far.
